National Recording Artist Visits CWAB®

As many of you who regularly follow activities of CWAB® know, the organization sponsors a yearly Memorial Concert to honor the memory of former Adaptive Technologist Sam McClanahan. This concert also serves as an organizational fund-raiser and recreational activity for consumers.

Among those who have assisted with fund-raising is RCA recording artist Jeff Bates.  For the past three years Bates, who’s single “Long Slow Kisses” reached national chart status in 2003, has donated a “Phone Call To A Fan.”  Through on-line auctions, these calls have brought to the agency 's building fund an excess of $1,200.

Before a recent performance in Huntington, (Friday, October 5th)Bates was given an opportunity to tour CWAB®’s Service Division office and personally inspect the progress of construction on the recreation building which he has helped to fund.

His visit, arranged by Marketing Manager Jerry Crabtree, gave Services Division staff members the opportunity to meet Bates and thank him for his support. Bates repeatedly stated “I really appreciate the work you do here.” Citing his brother was visually impaired, he was familiar with CCTV’s and fully appreciated CWAB®’s services.

“We hope you can perform here one day,” commented CWAB® Executive Director Paul Slone during the tour. “I’d love to do it,” Bates answered.
