MISSION

Cabell Wayne Association of the Blind is committed to promoting and advocating the economic, educational, and social welfare of the blind and visually impaired of all ages so that they can maintain a life style comparable to other members of society.


VISION

CWAB will be seen nationally as a model for organizations and agencies that help blind and visually impaired persons achieve maximum independence. CWAB will be known for timely and appropriate state-of the-art responses to the changing needs of consumers throughout the Tri-State area and beyond.


CWAB will achieve its Vision by 2010 by accomplishing these objectives, which are fundamental to its Mission and to its future:


1. Expand services and programs to respond effectively to identified and changing needs of blind and visually impaired persons.

    1.1.    Expand lines of communications with medical professionals
    1.1.1. Offer sensitivity training about blind patients to local hospitals  and medical offices.

1.2. Expand services (transportation, O&M, recreation, assistive technology, etc) as needed.

    1.2.1. Conduct survey of needs for additional services.

1.3. Raise funds for new building for training facilities.

    1.3.1. Develop fund raising plan for new building project.


2. Maintain a strong base of human resources, both paid and volunteer.

     2. 1. Provide competitive salaries, benefits, and education/training. to  employees.
    2.1.1. Research and define "competitive" benefit packages for local and area non-profits.

 

2.2. Increase number of employees in O&M, Assistive Technology Transportation and Recreation to meet program expansion and demands.

 

2.3. Increase pool of qualified/selected volunteers

    2.3.1. Hold "Volunteer Day" to train and screen new volunteers.
    2.3.2. Have a booth at Marshall University's Volunteer Fair.

3. Maintain sufficient financial support to assure continuing ability o help blind and visually impaired persons achieve independence.

    3.1. Increase -grant income by 30%.
    3.1.1. Seek and Identify new grant sources.
    3.1.2. Apply for two new grants this year.
    3.1.3. Develop grant applications for "in kind" services and equipment.

3.2. Increase "fee for service" and reimbursement income by 30%

    3.2.1. Add one new service.
    3.2.2. Develop "fee for service" marketing plan.

 

3.3. Increase Fund Raisers income, including MU concession stands, by 30%.

    3.3.1. Research and propose one new fund raising event this year.

 

3.4. Increase Planned Giving contributions by 100%.

    3.4.1. Develop planned giving program.

 

3.5. Increase Annual Fund Drive income by 100%.

    3.5.1. Increase mailing list.
    3.5.2. Develop special fund campaign to target businesses.

4. Improve CWAB's visibility in its communities, local, regional, national, and Professional.

    4.1. Increase media exposure in Tri-State area.
    4.1.1. Establish regular press release schedule for feature items.
    4.1.2. Provide news releases to area CATV local access channels.

 

4.2. Increase Internet and World Wide Web exposure.

    4.2.1. Create CWAB web page on own domain/server.

 

4.3. Increase impact of CWAB's printed materials, brochures, etc.

    4.3.1. Add Mission and Vision Statements to all publications and materials.
    4.3.2. Disseminate Newsletter, brochures, etc., to more locations and addresses.

 

4.4. Increase number of speaking engagements in Tri-State and nationally.


5. Improve organizational effectiveness to achieve maximum benefit from all resources available.

    5.1. Ensure that CWAB's organizational structure is effective and appropriate to changing needs.
    5.1.1. Survey/interview employees for perceptions of how well CWAB's org. structure serves.
    5.1.2. Survey/interview consumers for perceptions of how well CWAB's org. structure serves.

 

5.2. Ensure that organizational policies reflect and support CWAB's Mission and Vision.

    5.2.1. Publish new Long Range Plan to Board, Consumers and Community.
    5.2.2. Review organizational policies for clarity and appropriateness to Mission and Vision.

 

5.3. Improve organizational communication.

    5.3.1. Develop intranet for personal computers in office.

5.4. Employ streamlined, effective procedures and processes.

    5.4.1. Establish annual schedule to review policies and procedures.
